On-device AI reading

On portals Tabruns doesn't know yet, the AI built into Chrome reads the page on the office computer. Nothing is sent to a server.

Updated November 4, 2026

Tabruns reads benefits from the labels on the page. When a portal lays them out in a way it doesn't know, and coverage, the yearly maximum or the deductible is missing, it can ask the AI model built into Chrome (Gemini Nano) to read the page's text.

  • The model runs inside Chrome on the office computer. The page's text, and the patient details on it, never reach Tabruns or anyone else.
  • It only fills values the regular reading left empty, and each value it gives must appear on the page.
  • The panel marks what it read: Plan covers says Read by on-device AI and asks you to check them against the page. If one looks wrong, read the page again.

Turning it on

The model is a one-time download. Press Turn on next to On-device AI in Settings. You can keep working while it downloads. Settings shows On when it's ready.

Computers that can't run it

Chrome's built-in AI needs Chrome 138 or newer, 16 GB of memory or a graphics card with more than 4 GB, and about 22 GB of free disk space. On other computers the panel says This computer can't run Chrome's built-in AI. Everything else works the same on the portals Tabruns reads. See when the page can't be read.
