HIPAA and Tabruns
Tabruns is built so that no protected health information reaches us. Here's how, and what to tell your compliance person.
Updated November 4, 2026
HIPAA covers protected health information: health information tied to one of 18 kinds of identifier, such as a name, a date or a member number. Tabruns is designed so none of it leaves the office computer.
- The side panel reads the portal page locally and keeps patient details in memory only.
- Dates are turned into yes or no answers locally. Only those answers feed the estimate.
- Nothing from an estimate is sent to Tabruns. The worker that runs tabruns.com never receives a patient's details.
- The patient link and handout carry no name, date or member number.
If your practice needs a business associate agreement anyway, write to support@tabruns.com and we'll work one out with you.
This describes how Tabruns is built. It isn't legal advice; your own compliance advisor decides what your practice needs.
Didn't find it? Write to us and a person answers within two business days. Please leave patient details out.
