How Tabruns works
The front desk opens the patient's benefits on the insurer's portal, and Tabruns turns them into a dollar estimate.
Updated November 4, 2026
Tabruns is a Chrome extension for the front desk. It sits in a side panel next to the insurer's provider portal, the same portal your staff already sign in to. It doesn't log in for you, and it doesn't connect to your practice software.
A normal estimate
- In the side panel, choose the patient's insurer under Open the patient's insurer portal to open its portal. Sign in as yourself and open the patient's benefits.
- Press Read this page in the side panel. Plan covers shows preventive, basic and major with their percentages, what's left of the yearly maximum and the deductible.
- Under What does the patient need?, tap a common service such as Crown, or type any service or a code such as
D2740 #14. The first time you use a service, the panel asks your fee once. - Press See estimate. The answer is on top, every line says how its number was reached, and anything that changes it is listed right under it.
- Press Copy for chart to paste it into the patient's chart, or Give to patient to print a handout or email a link.
What it checks
- Coverage percentage for preventive, basic and major care
- Deductible left and yearly maximum left
- Waiting periods, using the plan start date
- Frequency limits, using the claims history on the page
- Downgrades, such as a back-tooth white filling paid at the silver-filling rate
- Services the plan doesn't cover, and whether you're in or out of network
Every estimate says it's an estimate. The insurer decides the final amount when the claim is processed.
